His approach to leadership was rooted in interdependency, uniting business, civic, and government leaders to solve complex challenges and invest in the long-term vitality of Central Texas.
2024 Central Texas Catalyst - Avery Family
The contributions of the Avery Family have left an indelible mark on Central Texas. Tracing their roots to some of the earliest settlers in the region, the Averys cultivated the land for five generations while fostering a deep tradition of community care. Tireless advocates for education, healthcare, and community development, the Averys have transformed the region through strategic land donations and partnerships with institutions such as ACC, Texas State University, Texas State Technical College, Texas A&M, and Seton. Their efforts culminated in the creation of the Round Rock Higher Education Center, which has expanded access to medical education and healthcare while driving economic growth and reshaping the trajectory of Northern Central Texas.
2023 Central Texas Catalyst - Neal Kocurek
Dr. W. Neal Kocurek’s leadership prowess played a pivotal role in shaping the region’s landscape, leaving an indelible mark on vital sectors such as health care, education, transportation, water, social equity, and regional stewardship. He served as a catalyst for the creation of the St. David’s HealthCare and related foundations (St. David’s Foundation and Georgetown Health Foundation) and Envision Central Texas. Neal was pivotal to the successful establishment of landmarks such as the Austin Convention Center, West Austin Youth Association, State Highway 130 and the Austin History Center building. And he exhibited an unwavering commitment to confronting long-term challenges with years of dedicated effort, celebrating the life and enduring impact of Neal Kocurek, a true catalyst for positive change in Central Texas.
