School Attendance in Central Texas Improving After Region-Wide Efforts

Region-wide efforts to decrease student absences in Central Texas have been working!  After reaching an all time high in 2010, student absences in Central Texas declined between 2011 and 2013, even despite student enrollment growth.

In partnership with E3 Alliance, AARO’s Community Accountability Team launched the Missing School Matters campaign, just one of many community efforts in Central Texas working on increasing student attendance.  Increased attendance has a triple bottom line effect: students are in school to learn; teachers have more time to teach planned lessons rather than catch up students who were out; and school districts get more state funding for every day students are in school.  The overall increase in Central Texas school district revenue since the launch of the Missing School Matters campaign is over $12 M.
